Why Rebuild Baqee.

Cultures, civilizations, religions and societies recognize specific monuments, locations, places and territorial regions with special significance reminiscent of particular moment in history or unique characteristics with historical, natural, archaeological, scientific, ethnic or cultural value. Such locations are recognized as heritage and are considered sacred. The heritage sites evoke sentimental values to individuals, groups, societies, religion, cultures and/or nations.

The lack of heritage recognition at local and international levels of important sites present grave danger and risk of irreversible loss. Over the past few decades the rulers of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have systematically destroyed several sites citing heretic claims and capacity expansions. An extensive list of destroyed sites, including Jannat-ul-Baqee, is discussed on other pages.

The residents of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are restricted in expressing their discontent with their rulers. Hence, it is incumbent upon all Muslims around the world to demand their local government to influence change. Muslims around the world can engage in social and political campaign to demand protection of all Islamic heritage and sacred sites.

The Al Baqee Organization is an NGO whose slogan is “Preservation of Heritage is Safeguarding of Identity.” It is committed to raising awareness for the preservation of Islamic heritage, its sanctity and seeks safety for all pilgrims visiting the sacred sites for worship or to pay homage. The organization strives to protect and stop further destruction of endangered heritage sites and restore all destroyed heritage sites; starting with Jannat-ul-Baqee as it rightfully believes that destruction of Jannat-ul-Baqee was the beginning of such atrocities in modern era.
